Releases New Book
Goldie’s Search for Silver
Panama City native Timothy A. Weeks has just released his newest book Goldie’s Search for Silver. His books are a big hit with children of all elementary ages. Weeks’ book, Ol’ Middler Saves the Day (A Mullet Buddy Homecoming), was nominated for the 2007 SIBA Children’s Book Award. He will be at the Destin History and Fishing Museum located at 108 Stahlman Avenue in Destin for a presentation Tuesday, January 26 at 3:30 PM.
Weeks' tales, with their strong emphasis on perseverance and making wise decisions, are based on his childhood mullet fishing experiences with his Papa, Captain David Weeks, a retired boat captain and commercial fisherman. The stories are illustrated by Weeks' mother, Miss Jeanne. Weeks' presentations involve storytelling with projected illustrations, plenty of audience participation, and a cast net demonstration. Weeks will also show children how the illustrations are made by combining digital photos of the Gulf Coast and his mother’s paintings, which he refers to as “mullet montages.”
“In my tales I try to emphasize perseverance and bravery when facing life's challenges,” says Weeks. “The Wise Mullet has to dodge alligators, sharks, pelicans, fishing nets and ride out a hurricane. He and his mullet buddy Ol' Middler provide heroic models for children to aspire to.”
“I’m excited to be presenting at the Destin History & Fishing Museum,” adds Weeks. “They’ve done a wonderful job making local history come alive. It’s a place every boy and girl living along the Gulf Coast should visit.”
Weeks' will also be autographing all three titles of his books for parents interesting in purchasing a copy for their child.
